About

Our Story

We are Steve and Brooks Farrar, a father/son duo who love the US National Parks and the great outdoors, and we are excited to plan your next adventure!

Steve (dad) immediately got the National Park bug back in 1969 when he visited his first park, Yellowstone NP, as a Boy Scout.  He has since visited EVERY one (to date, 63 total)!

Brooks, along with his two younger brothers, grew up getting “dragged” on trips to the parks at an early age, but quickly developed his own love and appreciation for the parks as he got older.

After a combined 65+ years of researching and planning trips to unique areas of the parks, witnessing incredible landscapes and views, and enduring unforgettable adventures with each other, we thought our experiences should be shared.  Thus, Best View Adventures was born.

We have put many exciting trips together, but if you have something unique in mind and don’t have the time to plan the trip, let us know and we’ll create a custom adventure for you and your crew!

My infatuation with the outdoors began back in my Boy Scout days where I learned enough basic skills to be comfortable out in the wilderness (or what passed as such in suburban Medfield, MA).  My epiphany came during a trip to the 1969 National Jamboree in Idaho – we visited three National Parks along the way and the impression they made was indelible.  Grand Teton, Yellowstone, and Glacier – if these wonderous places were what National Parks were all about, well, I made up my mind right then that I wanted to go see more of them!

Additional advanced training in numerous disciplines (survival, rock climbing, scuba, mountaineering) enabled me to more fully appreciate the variety of experiences offered by our National Parks.  I have now been to them all and the Parks have exceeded my wildest expectations – a short list of some memorable outings:

  • Walking across burning hot sand dunes in Death Valley

  • Scuba diving the coral reefs in Virgin Islands

  • Bouldering on rock formations in Joshua Tree

  • Hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon

  • Canoeing across lakes in Voyageurs

  • Scaling rock faces in Yosemite and Zion

  • Nighttime watching of flowing lava in Hawaii Volcanos

  • Camping among wolves in Isle Royale

  • Climbing to the summits of Mt. Rainier and Denali

How Our Trips Work

How Our Trips work

  • Pricing is per-person for double-occupancy rooms in hotels or lodges (No tents!).

  • Spots are filled on a first-come basis: a $200 deposit will hold your place (Balance is due 90 days before the start of the trip)

  • You arrange your travel to the meet-up city and we take care of all transportation from there.

  • We schedule recommended daily group activities, but there are always alternative options with different degrees of challenge. Variables may include length of hikes, hiking at or gaining elevation, and proximity to steep drop-offs, depending on our location. For example, you may choose to either walk the floor of Yosemite Valley and gaze up at the wonderous sights or you can opt to climb up to the top of the waterfalls.

  • General rule of thumb for conditioning for our trips would be that you should be comfortable taking a 3-mile hike on level ground.

  • Any technical gear required will be provided.

  • Refund Policy: Deposit can be refunded provided we have a replacement for your spot. No refunds after full payment is made. (Trip insurance is available)
